Journal: Peer Prompt

Author of prompt: Jaron Arguyen

Prompt: If you had to go to a fictional world, which one?

Would you rather be lonely or have bad friends? Explain.

The Amazing World of Gumball, in my opinion, would be the best fictional world to go to. The main theme in the series is adventure and constantly having a sense of adventure. Currently in this world, I deeply desire to have ultimate freedom and have the chance to experience the fun things that the characters in the show do. I would like to be friends with the two main characters, Gumball and Darwin, because they always seem to do exactly what I do: make mistakes yet never learn from it. Thus, both of them continuously scheme and always find ways to fight off boredom. Therefore, if I was their friend, then I would never be bored too. Gumball and Darwin's parents are also extremely nice and delightful as they don't ever yell at their kids, unless they did something really bad, like burn down the house or lose their sister. And even if they do really bad things like that, they are always forgiven. Moreover, if I were to do the activities that they do, then I would surely experience the adrenaline rush that I truly desire everyday.

The main characters also attend high school and have to do homework just like me. However, even through hard times, they always seem to stay positive and not let negative people affect them. I admire how close they are as brothers because instead of depending on friends or other people to make them happy, they can just depend on each other. Thus, they express the type of loyalty that I wish to have in my life.

Now onto the second prompt, I would rather be lonely than have bad friends because I don't see the point in wasting your time on people who don't value you. Especially in high school, there are many people who would act like your friend, yet turn their back on you when it's most convenient for them. Having fake friends makes it inevitable for you to get hurt, as it is likely that you would connect to them, and then hopefully, just hopefully, they won't betray you. Thus, I would rather be lonely because at least I know that I won't fall into a world of unnecessary drama that won't even matter in a year.

I've experience a great amount of fake friends in my lifetime, and through the years I've just learned that people can just hang around you or befriend you so that they don't look lonely in front of others. For some reason a lot of people don't like being seen alone. One time, one of my best friends left me for another friend group. However, one day she was sitting alone on a table and there was a group of guys that was walking by. She then walked over to my table and acted as if she were talking to me, saying nothing of value. Then once the guys passed by, she walked away from me. After that, I never spoke to her again because I didn't wan't to waste my time and emotions on someone who wouldn't care about how I feel. That goes to show how people can hurt you, and how it's rare to find a truly loyal friend.
